I think there are only few quilters who don’t know Yvonne Porcella and her colorful quilts and garments.
Since 1962 she is one of the stars of the Art Quilt Movement. Her work is a vibrant expression of an artist who knows how to handle color and humor with an endless palette. You can see her body of work at Yvonne Porcella’s website www.yvonneporcella.com. Click here to see a video with many of her wonderful quilts.
Yvonne Porcella’s unique garments, wall hangings and art quilts are the highlights of major quilt shows and her work is featured in museums and galleries. She has written 9 books and taught and lectured all over the world. The Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian Institution acquired her quilt, Takoage, in 1994 and included it in a touring exhibition honoring the 150th anniversary of the Smithsonian.
She is the founder of Studio Art Quilt Associates and served as its first president for 11 years. In 1998 she was inducted into the Quilters Hall of Fame and she was the recipient of the Silver Star Award of the International Quilt Festival in Houston.
