I have been admiring Lisa Call’s art quilts for a long time now and I love her series (especially the Postcards from New York!).
In this video she talks about working in series and I just learned that the Postcards from New York are not a series but a project and what the difference is. She talks about what is important when working in series (it has to show growth) and that it sometimes is really difficult to not get distracted by what other people are doing (which reminds me a lot of the article about Staying on the Bus). Lisa also gives some interesting comments about how to present oneself as an artist – “It’s the story that counts! Nobody cares how you made it.” And she finally answers the question: “What does it mean to live a creative life?”
All in all it’s one of the most interesting videos I have seen in the last year and I can only recommend you get a cup of coffee and watch these 35 minutes – you will not regret it.
