get unstuck – discover new ideas
It’s a rather thick volume (288 pages) filled from cover to cover with amazing art – some is textile related but there are also many other mediums like painting, paper-cutting, illustration, ceramics and collage.
The book introduces 50 artists from all over the world. You can see their beautiful pieces and read an interview with each of them. But you won’t find the usual “where are you from?”, “how old are you?”, “when did you start creating your art?”, “who were your teachers?”, etc. but interesting in-depth questions like “describe the first moment that you truly felt like an artist”, “how do you handle negative criticism?”, “how do you feel when you are in a creative zone?” “what does your inner critic say?”, ” describe what life is like as a full-time artist”, “do you equate your self-worth with your artistic success?”, “would you throw a piece away if it’s not working?”, and many more.
And each artist is asked this one question: “Do you experience creative blocks? And how do you push through them?” And the solutions to overcome creative blocks are as versatile as the artists are. From giving oneself a break or work with other mediums to googling a different career, you can find a lot of stimuli for moving on. Each artist offers one “creative unBlock project” – each one a valuable exercise in art. You can find some of these projects here http://www.thejealouscurator.com/blog/category/creativeunblock/ (the book was compiled by Danielle Krysa, the artist behind the blog www.thejealouscurator.com).
I really like this book, the inspiring art and the different views of life as an artist. And its an easy read with two to three pages per artist and a lot of pictures. My copy sits on my bedside table so I can read a chapter or two before going to sleep.
If you are experiencing creative blocks this book might have the solution for your problem.
