In 2013 the theme for the Open European Quilt Championship was BERLIN. The call resulted in a number of spectecular quilts. In the jury was one member of the city government of Berlin who asked the organizer Ada Honders to show the quilts not only in Veldhoven in October 2013 but also in Berlin. This led to Quilt Expo Berlin which will take place from May 30 to June 1, 2014.
Along with the Berlin-quilts there will also be a show with the quilts of Heidi Stegehuis of the Netherlands and of Brigitte Morgenroth, a German quilter known for her large log cabin-quilts in wonderful colors, the German Patchwork Guild will show works of its members and Ans Schipper-Vermeiren will be there with her amazing hexagon-quilts. The Italian Guild will have two shows – one called “The Cinema Collection” with quilts inspired by Italian movies, the other named “White Collection” with a number of group quilts, made mainly out of white fabrics. “Fibres Textiles” is an exhibition of yarns, where distinctive materials and spinning techniques for each continent are shown. And of course there is the opportunity the spend your money on all things patchwork related.
So if you are in or around Berlin on the coming weekend don’t miss Expo Berlin!
