Maybe Taiwan is not one of the first countries that come to mind when thinking of art quilts. But this is clearly a mistake. Want a proof? Look here:
Every four years the Taiwan Art Quilt Society under the presidency of Lin Hsin-Chen organizes the Taiwan International Quilt Exhibition. And there is always a special focus on our surroundings and on environmental care. In 2012 the contest theme was “water and river” and it yielded beautiful quilts, some of them shown here.
In 2016 the next Taiwan International Quilt Exhibition will take place in Tainan City from April 30 til May 29 and the organizers would love to receive quilts from all around the world.
The theme of the 2016 contest is: Protect the Earth’s Environment.
According to the United Nations Forum on Forests, the global forest deforestation has caused ecosystems degradation, resulting in the increasing threat of greenhouse gas emissions and species extinction at an alarming rate. Human beings have been playing the conflicting roles of invader, destroyer and guardian. Think about how to terminate or change the situation of global forest deterioration. We invite quilting artists to contribute to the global environmental issues, exploring creativity from life and humanity, sowing seed of hope and restoring Earth’s ecology, says curator Lin Hsin-Chen.
Entry deadline is November 1st, 2015. Quilts can be made by one artist or by a whole group.
If you are interested in receiving the guidelines and the entry form you can either send a mail to the Taiwan Art Quilt Society at firstname.lastname@example.org or mail me at email@example.com. Hopefully there will be a bunch of international quilts at the Taiwan International Quilt Exhibition 2016.
One last tip: Go to the members-page at the website of the Taiwan Art Quilt Society and you will find one quilt from each member. Click on this picture and you will find more quilts by this artist.
